Rigveda the ancient literature of India contains all the knowledge of herbal wealth of this tropical and diverse nation. The topography of India has a varied climatic zone which makes it a vast storehouse of medicinal plants. In this part of the biosphere, several ethnic groups resided, depending on plants and natural remedies for ailments. This practice gave birth to Ayurveda nad Unani and later on Allopathy.
Despite such comprehensive treatises, nowhere there is an up to date list if medicinal species of India, as referred to in different ancient literature including epics and pharmacopoeias.
